The horrific events of 7 October have highlighted the vulnerability of English-speaking gap-year teenagers, young adults and lone soldiers for whom the absence of familiar supportive environments poses significant mental health challenges.
In response to this issue, Mayanei Hayeshua’s Mental Health Center, held an awareness event in London, featuring the hospital’s Head of Psychiatry, Professor Rael Strous, Noa’s founder Naomi Lerer, Menorah headteacher, Esther Pearlman, clinical psychologist Rabbi Dr Samuel Landau, and Dr Bella Shanzer who will direct the hospital’s innovative English speaking Trauma and Anxiety Clinic for those attending the various gap year programmes.
Professor Strous and Dr. Shanzer also held a professional workshop for dozens of parents and teachers of high school students, hosted by the Bikur Cholim association in North London.
