In 2019, a children’s intensive care unit attached to the children's ward of the hospital was festively inaugurated. This was sadly preceded by cases in which children in critical condition failed to survive the journey to more distant hospitals, or did not receive the optimal treatment required in difficult situations. These and other cases exacerbated the necessity for establishment of the unit, which in addition, also incorporates the housing of the eating disorders department, which requires an intensive care unit adjacent to it for the treatment of extreme situations, as well as the performance of complex surgeries after which hospitalization in this unit may be required.
The new unit has been designed in eye-catching colors to stimulate a calm and encouraging atmosphere and has been equipped with the most innovative and advanced medical equipment. Since its inception, hundreds of children have been treated in it and it has proven to be a vital life-saving resource.
